I found some wonderful freebies to share with you, too! Let's start in order. This activity is nice to send home with families, even before the year begins, to practice writing their names.
I have a added few freebies in my TPT store that I hope you can use!
This is my district's first year using Journeys in grades K The new series has been a big shift from our previous ELA series. Journeys has a large variety of resources to use with our students, so the most difficult part is just figuring out how to get it all in each day!
Previously, our Kinders' sight word list was only 50 words. This is an adjustment to the 80 plus words in Journeys for Kindergarten students!
I think it's a great thing that students are exposed to more words, however, I was looking for some additional resources for students to practice these words. So, I decided to create some sight word mini books to align with the words in each Journeys unit. Since we are working on Unit 1 during the season of Fall, I thought it would be great to incorporate our theme with our Language Arts lesson.
I created a mini sight book emergent reader that includes the four words from Unit 1. This book is super easy to copy back to back pages and then cut in half and staple! Students will work on identifying the sight words in the book and practice read to self, and read to someone with our new fall book!
When we are finished with the book in class, students will take this book home and add it to their Reading Treasure Box!
I love teaching my Kinders about fall! It is my favorite time of year, and we always have so much to talk about and share! Pumpkin picking, apple picking, Halloween activities and so much more!
One of the first things we do each year is make a list of fall words. The students brainstorm all of the things they see in the fall and we make a list on the chart paper.
This starts the conversation about fall or autumn. Then, I add fall themed activities all around the room, in various centers, for morning work and more. I will use these fall vocabulary words cards in my pocket chart. Some of the activities that we will use the cards for are: Matching Activity - Students will apply phonics skills beginning and ending sounds to match the words with the pictures in the pocket chart.
Writing - These will be in the writing center for students to use.Writing & Fine Motor Practice - you can do the old stand-by and write your words on a piece of paper, maybe even the dreaded 5x each or you can.. 1.
